A native of Uruguay, Oscar came to South Africa as a young boy. He
quickly developed an affinity towards South African culture yet
even with this newfound love, he longed for his mother’s homemade
recipes. Oscar began recreating these recipes and having perfected
them, he was introduced to Bernardo, an Argentinian who’d come to
South Africa four years prior. Their meeting grew into a empanada
stand at the Neighbourgoods Market, and soon the menu was growing
too. After earning their reputation in the market business, they
decided to make the move into a space of their own. Thus, Che
Argentine Grill was born.
Now in 2016, having been open for more than a year, they have been
voted as the best steakhouse in Gauteng by the Eat
Out awards. We’d like to congratulate them on their
win, a well-deserved one indeed. From the beautifully cosy interior
to the delicious food and drinks, the Che experience is certainly
one to behold. Do yourself a favour and sample something off their
grill soon.

Nondumiso Lwazi Msimanga and Jenny Nijenhuis are two artists on a
mission to start a very public and open dialogue during 16 Days of
Activism about what rape in South Africa looks like.
Their collaboration will see 3600 pairs of used underwear hung on
1.2 kilometres of washing line in the streets of Maboneng, and
where the line ends at SoMa Art + Space, Nondumiso will perform On
the Line, a meditation in a wedding dress made of panties. They are
requesting underwear donations for the installation as well as new
underwear for various rape crisis organisations.
SoMa Art + Space has also put out an open
call for works that observe, reflect and comment on
what the rape crisis in South Africa looks like. The launch will
take place on the 24th of November and the exhibition will run
through to the 4th of December.
